JUST LIKE IN the All-Ireland final, Kerry’s James O’Donoghue will again have to fight off competition from Donegal’s Neil McGee if he wants to come away with the Footballer of the Year award. Both players had exceptional seasons and are expected to pick up All-Star awards when the team is announced.
The third nominee is Diarmuid Connolly, and the Dublin player might be a good outside bet for the award considering how close the Dublin player was to winning The Sunday Game Player of the Year, only losing to O’Donoghue by one vote.
After scoring two goals against Dublin in the All-Ireland semi-final, Ryan McHugh will be the favourite to take home the Young Footballer of the Year award. The Donegal youngster will be up against teammate Paddy McBrearty and Galway’s Shane Walsh, who were also nominated.
The winners will be revealed at the All-Star ceremony later this month.
