Injuries hit Manchester United hard as five left at home for Marseille game

Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs are on a pretty lengthy injury list for the Old Trafford club.

MANCHESTER UNITED WILL be without a number of first team players for tomorrow’s Champions League tie with Marseille in France.

Anderson, Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs, Jonny Evans and Michael Owen have all been ruled out with Alex Ferguson forced to bring a number of youngsters in to his squad for the trip, reports the BBC.

Brazilian midfielder Anderson could be sidelined for the next two months, reports the Guardian, after he was substituted with a knee injury at half time in the FA Cup win over Crawley Town at the weekend.

Ferdinand has not played since injuring his calf prior to the Wolves game on 5 February. His fellow centre-back Jonny Evans has an ankle problem.

Michael Owen is thought to have a groin injury whilst there is no news on the reason for Giggs’ absence.

It is unlikely that Ferguson would have chosen to rest the veteran Welsh winger given the Old Trafford club’s injury problems.

Ferguson has included Brazilian twins Rafael and Fabio who both came off injured in Saturday’s FA Cup game.

But also sidelined for United are Park Ji-Sung with a hamstring injury, long term injury victim Antonio Valencia, and even longer term injury victim Owen Hargreaves.
