HIS NEW MANAGER may labelled his new Irish recruit ‘a big leprechaun’, but Setanta Ó hAilpín insists he feels right at home with his new Australian Rules club in Sydney.
The former Cork hurler completed a switch to newly-formed franchise the Greater Western Sydney Giants as he was picked No 79 in the AFL draft last week.
After several years at Melbourne-based side Carlton, the one-time Young Hurler of the Year says the move to Sydney is one with which he’s very comfortable.
“I was born at Bankstown General Hospital and spent my first five years living here,” O’hAilpin told FoxSports.
“There were five kids all in a two-bedroom house at Greenacre. I’m also of Islander descent, being Fijian and Samoan, and a lot of people don’t know I was born here before I headed to Ireland when I was five years old.
“To come full circle now, it still amazes me and it will be a great experience.”
Ó hAilpín was unveiled at a fan day over the weekend.
