Rebel return

JBM could bring Ó hAilpín back, says former Rebels boss

Could we see Seán Óg pulling on the red jersey again next season?

EXILED REBEL Seán Óg Ó hAilpín could be in line for a surprising recall to the Cork senior hurling panel under Jimmy Barry-Murphy, according to former manager John Allen.

Allen was at the helm in 2005 when the Na Piarsaigh wing-back captained Cork to All-Ireland glory and, speaking on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta today, he said that Denis Walsh’s decision to drop the star was a mistake.

Describing Ó hAilpín, now 34, as a role model on and off the pitch, Allen said he was confident that Barry-Murphy would leave the door open to the county’s older players and give them a fair chance at making the squad.

The returning Rebel manager, who last managed Cork in 2000, has yet to announce his backroom team, with Allen tipping former players Ger Cunningham and Seánie McGrath as ideal candidates for the post.
