English FA hit Barton with 12-match ban

The controversial QPR midfielder will also have to pay £75,000 for his actions at the Etihad on May 13.

JOEY BARTON will miss a substantial chunk of next season after being handed a 12-match ban by the English FA.

The QPR captain received a straight red card from referee Mike Dean for an elbow on Carlos Tevez in the final Premier League fixture of the season on May 13, then kneed Sergio Aguero in the side.

Before being dragged off the pitch, Barton attempted to headbutt City skipper Vincent Kompany and also exchanged words with Mario Balotelli, who was standing on the touchline.

The 29-year-old, who is no stranger to controversy, attended a personal hearing today and accepted the charge of violent conduct.

He has also been ordered to pay £75,000 for his actions during the 3-2 win to Roberto Mancini’s title winners.
