LIMERICK FC MOVED one step closer to the First Division title with a comfortable win over Cobh Ramblers at the Markets Field.

Despite several big names returning for the hosts, Martin Russell opted to make no changes from the side that romped Waterford in the RSC last week.

It wouldn’t be long until that decision was justified.

The Blues stormed into the lead after 26 minutes when stand-in captain and local favourite Lee-J Lynch picked up possession in the Cobh half. He nut-megged his marker before taking a touch to set himself. From here, the midfielder took aim and rocketed an effort into the far corner from the edge of the box.

Five minutes later, the lead was doubled. Shaun Kelly’s cross from the right-hand side was perfectly lofted towards the head of Chris Mulhall – he made no mistake; powering his header beyond Paul Hunt.

In what was another routine win for the runaway leaders, the biggest positive for the Shannonsiders arrived on the hour mark when captain Shane Duggan made his long-awaited return from injury. The 1,191 in attendance greeted him with delighted as the Blues strolled to their sixteenth victory of the season.
