Lennon tells Celtic fans to end sectarian chants

The manager claims that it’s only “a tiny group” of supporters who are misbehaving.

CELTIC MANAGER NEIL Lennon has called on fans to end the “illicit chanting,” which has prompted UEFA and SPL investigations.

Lennon, who has himself been a victim of sectarianism in the past, said the chants were the actions of a minority and not a reflection of the club’s supporters in general.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, he said:

“It’s important that we put a general message out that these chants have no place around our club. To be honest, we are better than that as a club and we always have been, we just don’t need it.”

Lennon described how the club was “open to all and we do not have issues around sectarianism” and added:

“The irony is that the section of fans we are talking about have added a new dimension and vibrancy to Celtic Park. We know even within that section that it’s only a tiny group of fans that are involved in this.”

Following chanting at matches against Hibs and Rangers, ex-referee Eddie Smith reported the Celtic fans to match delegates.
