Limerick hurlers on horseback to raise money for injured jockey Robbie McNamara
FOR LIMERICK HURLERS Declan Hannon and David Reidy, this was a whole new experience.
We reckon this is the world’s first game of hurling ever played on horseback, and it’s all for a good cause to raise money for injured jockey Robbie McNamara.
“It is very exciting, it’s a totally new concept to me,” said Hannon.
“It’s similar to polo, you’d see it on television.
“It’s for a great cause for Robbie McNamara, anything you can do to help and raise money for Robbie would be great.
“It’s fairly exciting and hopefully it takes off.”
Reidy said: ”It’s a totally new experience for me personally, I’ve never ridden a horse before.
“There’s a few skills in hurling that you could use in any walk of life, hopefully we’ll be able to use a few of them.”
