Partners? Modric departs and Spurs announce alliance with Real Madrid

As part of the £30m Modric transfer, Los Blancos have struck an imaginative deal with the London club.

REAL MADRID HAVE signed Tottenham Hotspur’s Croatian midfielder Luka Modric for the next five seasons, the Spanish club announced this morning.

A statment from the Spanish giants confirmed the transfer of the sought-after Croatian:

“Real Madrid C.F. and Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Luka Modric, who will be with the club for the next five seasons.”

However, the deal has raised many eyebrows as both clubs have also alluded to a ‘partnership agreement’.

A statement on the the Premier League club’s website stated: “The partnership agreement will see the two Clubs working together in respect of players, coaching, best practices and commercial relationships.”

With Madrid president Florentino Perez adding, “The strong relationship and affinity between our two clubs has resulted in the cementing of a longer-term partnership and the successful transfer of Luka Modric. We are delighted to welcome Luka and look forward to working closely with Tottenham in the coming years.”

The fee paid by Madrid to Spurs is thought to be in the region of £30 million, considerably less than Spurs’ original asking price.
