Murray Kinsella reports from Stade Yves du Manoir
MUNSTER FANS HAVE paid a poignant tribute to Anthony Foley outside Stade-Yves-du-Manoir, after the 42-year-old passed away suddenly overnight in Paris.
The shock news broke less than two hours before Munster’s game against Racing 92, with supporters already milling around outside the grounds in Colombes.
With confirmation that the match was postponed, Munster’s supporters gathered at the main entrance to the stadium to pay tribute to Foley. First, a minute’s applause in memory of the two-time Heineken Cup winner.
Before an emotional rendition of ‘The Fields of Athenry.’
The Munster fans then sang ‘There is an Isle,’ a favourite of Foley’s Shannon RFC.
The supporters left flags, jerseys and other mementos outside Stade Yves du Manoir after singing, with many tears shed.
Before a long queue developed as Munster’s supporters waited to sign a book of condolences, sharing their memories of a true legend of the province.
