Claims the Giants reported the use of deflated footballs by the Steelers have been denied by the league.

THE NFL HAS denied reports the New York Giants accused the Pittsburgh Steelers of deflating footballs following their game last weekend.

Pittsburgh defeated the Giants 24-14, but Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported on Sunday that New York tested two footballs on the sideline during the game and found them to be under the allowed PSI level.

The Giants reportedly sent the balls to the NFL, but the league has rejected those claims.

A statement, released by NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy on his Twitter feed, read: “The officiating game ball procedures were followed and there were no chain of command issues.

“All footballs were in compliance and no formal complaint was filed by the Giants with our office.”

The issue of deflated footballs came to light in the now infamous Deflategate scandal involving the New England Patriots.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady missed the first four games of this season after a suspension handed down by the NFL – which found he was “generally aware” of the deflation of footballs used in their AFC Championship game win over the Indianapolis Colts in January 2015 – was reinstated by the U.S Court of Appeals following extensive legal wrangling.
