Pet monkeys and 5 other things you didn’t know about Conor McGregor

We caught up with the Irish MMA fighter, who is training ahead of his second UFC bout in Boston on August 17.

1. Conor was offered a spot on Celebrity Apprentice but had to give it a miss

“It is being filmed between 6 weeks and 3 weeks out from my fight in Boston so I had to turn it down. It would have been for charity, a bit of craic and an excuse to wear a suit everyday.

“Imagine what would have happened when someone tried to fire my ass!”

2. He would consider acting

“I’ve never acted a day in my life but I know I could act. Actor Peter Coonan (Fran from Love/Hate) invited me to the premiere of King Of The Travellers and said he wanted to do a film with me.

“Fighting doesn’t define me. I feel like I can do it all. That’s the way you need to feel.”

3. He loves looking good

“I’m into my clothes and am always looking for an excuse to wear a suit. I never had the chance to before so why not. It was my niece’s confirmation recently so I said ‘that’s a suit’. I’ve been wearing suits in loads of photo shoots and any other opportunities I get. I’ve brought the dickie bow back.”

4. He is still a little freaked out by Twitter

“It freaks me out sometimes. I go online to have a buzz but I have to realise that it’s different to before as I’m tweeting to so many followers.”

5. He hasn’t received his ’60 Gs’ for Knockout of the Night yet

“I’m still waiting on the bonus cheque. They send that out after all the medicals and that. It’s the first time I’ve ever been in this situation so I’m not quite sure how long it takes.

“When the big one comes I’m going to spoil the ones close to me. When I was broke I used to think about how it would feel to be able to do that. That feeling would spur me on to keep going.”

6. He has thought about getting a pet monkey

“I’ve been thinking about buying a monkey and naming him something like Mr Kong. It would have to be a Mr.”
