making history

Another day, another record - Ronaldo makes history as Real Madrid thrash Eibar

The only surprise was that he didn’t score more than one this afternoon.

REAL MADRID PUT their midweek Champions League misery behind them in scintillating fashion as a Cristiano Ronaldo-inspired performance helped them smash Eibar 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Ronaldo became the first player in history to score 30+ goals in six consecutive La Liga seasons as Los Blancos bounced back from losing to Wolfsburg on Wednesday by momentarily closing the gap between themselves and Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the Liga title race.

Madrid took the lead after just five minutes thanks to James Rodriguez, before Lucas Vazquez and Ronaldo strengthened Real’s lead.

Jese got his name on the scoresheet before the half-time interval to make it 4-0 as Real warmed up for the visit of Wolfsburg in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie to superb effect.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid claimed a 3-1 against Espanyol as they prepare for their return match against Barcelona in the Champions League.

Goals from Fernando Torres and Antoine Griezmann allowed Diego Simeone’s men to come back from behind after Pape Diop had struck first for the hosts.

Late on, Torres set up Koke to seal the points.
