Rebel return on the cards for Jimmy Barry-Murphy?

He managed Cork to All-Ireland glory in 1999. Is JBM set for a comeback?

JIMMY BARRY-MURPHY could be set for a sensational return as Cork hurling manager 11 years after walking away from inter-county management, according to this morning’s Irish Daily Star (print edition).

Kieran Cunningham reports that the legendary dual star is currently the favourite to succeed Denis Walsh, with Ger Cunningham, Ger Fitzgerald and Sean O’Brien also in contention for the post.

The final decision as to who will be the right man to lead the Rebels forward rests with a six-man committee appointed at a meeting of the Cork County Board earlier this week.

Barry-Murphy’s previous stint as Cork manager lasted from 1995 to 2000, when he guided the county to All-Ireland glory in 1999 as well as back-to-back Munster titles in 1999 and 2000.
