Sans Frontieres out of Melbourne Cup

Jeremy Nozeda-owned four year-old withdrawn from Melbourne Cup.

A MUSCLE-RELATED illness has ruled Sans Frontieres out of next month’s Melbourne Cup.

The four year-old had been in quarantine for over a fortnight, but now the Jeremy Nozeda-owned favourite will not compete.

A statement from Ogden’s racing manager Barry Simpson read: “The welfare of the horse is paramount as a result of this setback, [we have] decided to withdraw the horse from the Melbourne Cup.

“This is a severe blow and a huge disappointment …. He was so much looking forward to the challenge of this event and running in a race that carried so much prestige and history.

“He suffered a severe attack of azoturia (muscle stiffness) after he finished work on the (Newmarket) Heath on Tuesday night. We have no immediate plans for the horse until his recovery is complete.”
