THE FUTURE OF Cork senior football manger Conor Counihan is under the spotlight today in light of his fellow All-Ireland hurling winning manager Liam Sheedy’s departure from Tipperary on Thursday.
Counihan is said to be considering his future with the Rebels according to today’s Irish Independent.
A decision is expected in the next week with many in Cork mindful of the similar path that Sheedy and Counihan’s careers have followed so far.
Both lost an All-Ireland semi-final in their first year in charge, reached a final in their second and were victorious in their third year.
Now the fear is that Counihan will see now as a good time to quit while he’s ahead.
Last month the 51-year-old said he would give it “two or three weeks” before making a decision, telling the Press Association on 25 September:
Do you end up needing it more than it needs you? If you reach that stage, that’s not a right place to be. I’ll give myself two or three weeks to stand back from the thing. That’s being fair to everyone.
