ALMOST FIVE WEEKS after suffering an ankle tendon injury in Ulster’s Pro12 win over Edinburgh, Stephen Ferris today underwent surgery on the problem.
The international blind-side was carried off in the second half of the November clash with the Scottish side at Ravenhill and was immediately ruled out of Ireland’s November Series.
Ferris also missed out on Ireland’s summer tour of New Zealand with a separate injury and has not played internationally since the Six Nations defeat in Twickenham.
That disappointing result was the end of what was an otherwise good tournament personally for Ferris, whose last gasp block of a Lionel Beauxis drop-goal attempt secured a rare result for Ireland in Paris.
The statement released by Ulster Rugby this evening does not impose a time-frame on the back row’s return, saying simply:
“Stephen will be reviewed in the coming weeks to establish an accurate time period for recovery and to assess when he will fit to return to play.”
