'I don't know what Raheem wants to do' - Daniel Sturridge on Sterling's Liverpool future

The 20-year-old has been at the centre of protracted contract negotiations in recent months but his club and international team-mate is hopeful that he will remain at Anfield.

DANIEL STURRIDGE HOPES that Raheem Sterling will stay at Liverpool amid concrete interest from elsewhere.

Sterling has been at the centre of protracted contract negotiations in recent months and caused anger among some supporters when he conducted an interview with the BBC , during which he dismissed accusations that he is a “money grabber”, despite turning down an offer of £100,000-per-week .

Arsenal and Manchester City have both been linked with the England international, while Zinedine Zidane has revealed that Real Madrid are monitoring his progress, but Sturridge is hopeful that Sterling’s contract impasse can be resolved and believes Anfield is the best place for the 20-year-old to continue his development.

“I don’t know what Raheem wants to do but it’s just important to be able to play regularly,” he said.

“As long as he’s playing regularly then he’ll be happy. I don’t think it’s anything to do with anything other than that and I hope that he’ll stay at the club.

“I think it’s important, regardless of who you are, that you’re able to show what you can do, not just for Raheem, but for any young player.

“It’s important to play games and gain experience, so whatever decision he makes, I’m behind him 100 per cent.”

Sterling unveiled Liverpool’s new kit on Friday, and several fans at the event pleaded with the winger to remain at the club .
