Find out which striker Liverpool are trying to sign and why Diego Maradona may help Chelsea.

OCCASIONALLY, YOU MIGHT spot an ex-footballer on the television prattling on about how things were so much better in his day, and how the recent influx of foreign players means good old-fashioned British football is neither good nor old-fashioned anymore.

Well, Kenny Dalglish is what happens when one of those ex-players is given a job. He will look to add another good old-fashioned British centre forward in the form of Daniel Sturridge to his list of recruits.

One striker who is definitely not old-fashioned is Emmanuel Adebayor. The player, who is seemingly oblivious to the fact that he is nowhere near good enough to play for Real Madrid, wants to spend the rest of his career there.

From an ex-Arsenal man to someone who is more than likely a soon-to-be ex-Arsenal man, Denilson. He is likely to leave the club after enduring the kind of fate that all footballers have nightmares about – he was a substituted substitute, coming off after only 20 minutes and storming down the tunnel in frustration.

Another troubled midfielder, Owen Hargreaves, will have to endure the ignominy of going on trial at West Brom. A far cry from the player who overshadowed the likes of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard at the 2006 World Cup and was consider their ‘best defensive midfielder’ by some.

Another injury-prone midfielder, Alberto Aquilani, is fast on course to becoming the new Eric Djemba Djemba and has disappointed Liverpool fans yet again by ruling out a move to Sunderland.

While Aquilani would probably prefer a return to his native Italy, one player who won’t be going there any time soon is Sergio Aguero.

The Argentinian is apparently reluctant to spend an exorbitant amount of time there, as his father-in-law – a little known ex-player by the name of Diego Maradona – is not the Italian authorities’ favourite person in the world. This could subsequently open the door for Chelsea to sign the player.

Maradona has obviously decided he is under marginally less threat in England from fans still angry over the ‘hand of god’ incident.

That’s everything, save for the big news of the day – Jonathan Greening’s impending move to Nottingham Forest.
