6. #ATHLETICS Legendary long-distance runner Haile Gebrselassie called time on his great career yesterday, announcing his retirement with immediate effect. Gebrselassie, who has been a dominant force in distance running for the past two decades, setting dozens of world records, made the decision after he limped out of the New York City marathon with a knee injury.

7. #CHAMPIONS Francesco Molinari held off new world No 1 Lee Westwood in China to become the first player on the European Tour to bag a title after leading from the first day to the last in Shangahi.

8. #RACING Today’s meeting at Limerick has been cancelled after the course was found to be waterlogged following an inspection at 7.30am this morning, according to RTÉ.
