The Morning Score: Tuesday

Everything you need to know by 9AM, except whether Manchester United can recover from last night’s choke.

Every morning TheScore.ie brings you the sports stories you need to know before that first cup of coffee.

1. #THE CITY IS OURS When we said a few weeks ago that the title race was back on, we didn’t think it was this on.

Manchester City took a giant leap towards securing their first title since 1968 by beating title and city rivals, Manchester United 1-0 at Eastlands.

Vincent Kompany grabbed the goal for Roberto Mancini’s men and the Italian enjoyed the best of some angry exchanges with his opposite number on the sideline.

The result leaves City top of the league by virtue of their superior goal difference. Both teams have two games remaining the Premier League.

2. #ELSEWHERE Tonight, England’s top division gets back to normal as Stoke host Everton and Fulham travel to Newcastle. Both Merseyside clubs are battling for the bragging rights of a seventh-placed finish. The previews for those two games are here.

3. #HODGSON’S CHOICE Former Liverpool manager, Roy Hodgson was in talks for four hours with the FA at Wembley. Despite Harry Redknapp looking like the nailed on favourite to take over the role of England manager, it now appears the West Brom boss will take the reigns in time for the Three Lions’ friendly against Norway.

4. #CAS The Court of Arbitration fro sport has ruled that lifetime Olympic bans for drug cheats are illegal. The ruling means two previously banned British athletes, sprinter Dwain Chambers and cyclist David Millar, are free to compete at the London Olympics. The full story on that is here.

5. #SNOOKER LOOPY The World Championship is really heating up as we head for the business end of the tournament. Judd Trump was unceremoniously dumped out of contention by Ali Carter, but  it was the wagging-chins of the players rather than jaws of the pockets that are making headlines.

Trump, 22, branded Carter childish after he sarcastically applauded a fluke brown in the 23rd frame.

6. #GAA Galway have received a timely boost to their Championship hopes with this morning’s news that Michael Meehan should recover from an ankle inury.

The Tribesmen tip off their summer in against Roscommon in Hyde Park on May 20.
