Bowe ruled out for six months as Henderson sidelined with hand injury

The Ireland lock will miss up to six weeks of action.

ULSTER HAVE CONFIRMED that Tommy Bowe will be out of action for at least six months following his knee injury at the World Cup.

The 31-year-old was stretchered off during Ireland’s quarter-final defeat to Argentina and the northern province say Bowe suffered posterior cruciate ligament and meniscal injuries in his right knee.

Bowe underwent surgery on the knee yesterday and will now miss at least six months of action, ruling him out of the 2016 Six Nations.

A positive recovery could see him come into contention for the final weeks of the 2015/16 season and Ireland’s tour of South Africa next summer.

Meanwhile, Ulster say Iain Henderson will be sidelined for six weeks after a hand injury he picked up in Ireland’s loss to the Pumas in the Millennium Stadium.

The dynamic lock will undergo surgery later today to stabilise a joint in his hand, and that recovery timeframe means he could miss four of Ulster’s Champions Cup games, which would be a major blow for head coach Neil Doak.

Finally, Ulster say that foot surgery on Jared Payne – another man injured at the World Cup – was successful in stabilising the fracture. However, the province is “awaiting his first post-operative review, after which a prognosis will be known.”
