A tweet from last season has come back to haunt Joey Barton

The infamous English midfielder produced a poor performance against Spurs yesterday.

IN NOVEMBER OF 2013, Joey Barton claimed, rather arrogantly, that he would “destroy both the midfielders Spurs have wasted money on”.

And yesterday, Barton was given the opportunity to back up these words, as QPR visited Tottenham.

Nevertheless in spite all the English midfielder’s bravura, his attempts at dominance proved a miserable failure, as Spurs ran out comfortable 4-0 winners, with Etienne Capoue — ostensibly one of the players Barton was referring to in the aforementioned tweet — having a particularly influential role in proceedings.

Twitter, naturally enough, was in an unforgiving mood following the match, after learning of the star’s previous ill-advised comments.
