Dan Martin within touching distance of Catalunya podium with two days to go

Martin just four seconds behind Richie Porte as Quintana retains race lead.

DAN MARTIN SITS just four seconds outside the podium places ahead of the final two stages at the Volta a Catalunya.

Martin finished in the main group on Friday’s fifth stage to Valls, won by Sky rider Wouter Pouls, while Nairo Quintana retained the overall lead in the general classification.

Alberto Contador is seven seconds behind Quintana ahead of Saturday’s flat stage, while Richie Porte is 17 seconds off the pace in third place with Martin narrowly behind in fourth.

Saturday’s stage should be one for the sprinters ahead of what could prove an exciting GC finale in the hills around Barcelona on Sunday.
