THE GOLDEN STATE Warriors clinched the top seed in the NBA’s Western Conference courtesy of a 112-101 win over the San Antonio Spurs last night.
With the win, the Warriors claimed home-court advantage throughout the NBA play-offs and also kept their record of no back-to-back losses this season intact.
The defending NBA champions became just the second team in history to reach 70 wins (they now sit 70-9) but need to win their next three games to break the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’ record of 72-wins in a season.
Steph Curry led the way for the Warriors with 27 points, helped by Harrison Barnes (21 points) and Draymond Green (18 points).
The Spurs (65-13) — second behind the Warriors in the Western Conference — were led by Kawhi Leonard’s 23 points.
Elsewhere, the Atlanta Hawks beat the Toronto Raptors 95-87.
Jeff Teague scored 23 points and Kyle Korver added 14 as the Hawks stayed third in the Eastern Conference, behind the second-placed Raptors.
Paul Millsap was also in fine form for the Hawks, posting 13 points and 14 rebounds in a double-double performance.
DeMar DeRozan (16 points), Kyle Lowry (16 points) and Jonas Valanciunas (13 points) led the way for the Raptors.
A total of seven players posted double-figure points for the Miami Heat as they beat the Chicago Bulls 106-98 with Hassan Whiteside and Goran Dragic managing double-doubles of 16 points and 12 rebounds each, while Dwyane Wade scored 21 points.
Jimmy Butler (25 points) and Pau Gasol (21) were the top scorers for the Bulls.
The Minnesota Timberwolves won back-to-back on the road for the first time since November after a 105-97 win over the Sacramento Kings.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns ended their seven-game losing streak with a 124-115 win against the Houston Rockets.
