Watch Cork's new Antrim recruit in goal-scoring action

New Rebel James Loughrey notched one of the goals of the championship last summer against Monaghan.

IT WAS NOT the starting 15 that Cork named last night for Sunday’s game with Mayo, which caught the eye.

Instead it was the substitute list for the Division 1 football league clash in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Selected at number 26 is James Loughrey, recently transferred to the Mallow club in North Cork, but who is better known for his exploits with the Antrim footballers in recent years.

27 year-old Loughrey is an accountant moved to Mallow where his girlfriend hails from and last week featured for local divisional team Avondhu in the Cork senior football championship.

Loughrey was a St Brigid’s club man and featured in the Antrim side that contested the 2009 Ulster final when they lost to Tyrone.

He has continued to produce attacking displays from wing-back since then and has an eye for a goal as he showed last summer against Monaghan in the Ulster championship.
