MOMENTS BEFORE HE chipped in with a brace in his side’s 4-1 win over Liverpool yesterday, Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane was introduced to one of the most gifted players ever to grace a football pitch in the history of the game.
Diego Maradona, a former Argentina team-mate of Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, was at Wembley to see Kane score twice in Spurs’ impressive Premier League victory.
Before the game, the legendary playmaker, 56, who was accompanied by former Tottenham and Argentina star Ossie Ardiles, was introduced to Kane and Tottenham skipper Hugo Lloris.
“He’s a fantastic guy. Great energy. Great guy,” Kane told Sky Sports. “He is one of the best No 10s ever. It was great for him to be here today. He didn’t talk much English. He talked in Spanish. I didn’t understand what he was saying. But he was very energetic.
“He said some nice compliments, not just to me, but to the team and the manager. I think they played together early in the gaffer’s career. Just to be in the company of someone like that — what a player he was.”
Maradona offered Kane some advice in relation to his shooting, although the 24-year-old England striker seems to be doing just fine on that front at the moment.
With eight goals in nine Premier League games so far this season, he’s currently the leading goalscorer in the English top flight, one ahead of both Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) and Romelu Lukaku (Manchester United).
