Dean Rock on fire as Dublin maintain their 100% record with a win over Roscommon

Jim Gavin’s side made it seven wins from seven in the game that was moved to Carrick-on-Shannon.

Dublin 1-13

Roscommon 1-12

Darragh Small reports from Pairc Sean Mac Diarmada, Carrick-on-Shannon.

DEAN ROCK HIT 1-8 as Dublin made history in the Allianz League Division 1 and maintained their 100 per cent record with a win over Roscommon.

Jim Gavin’s men made it seven from seven with a one-point victory over the westerners in Pairc Sean Mac Diarmada.

They led 0-9 to 0-3 at half-time and Roscommon came with a great fight back in the second-half led by Donie Shine, but it wasn’t enough despite Eric Lowndes’ black card.

After a 9am pitch inspection in Dr Hyde Park that pitch was deemed unplayable and the match was moved to Carrick-on-Shannon.

Roscommon responded better and they started well kicking the first two scores but they were made to wait until the 37th minute for their third. And Dublin led 0-9 to 0-3 at half-time.

Seanie McDermott and Cathal Cregg both got black cards as they pressure built and Roscommon had no answer. Their ill-discipline cost them and after early points from Niall Daly and Ciarain Murtagh Dublin opened up.

Dean Rock finally got their first point in the 11th minute. He followed that up with five frees in a row. While Roscommon were hit with the black card for McDermott.

He was sent to the line for a foul on O’Conghaile and Cregg got his marching orders for a trip on Paul Mannion. Donie Shine’s late point brought it back to a six-point game but Dublin were in control.

But Roscommon turned it around after the interval and they kicked the first three scores with Conor Devaney, Donie Shine and Ciarain Murtagh on target.

They kept the fight to Dublin and substitute Devaney brought them back within one in the dying moments, but Ciarain Murtagh missed a late free.

Scorers for Dublin: D Rock 1-8 (0-7f), C McHugh 0-1, K McManamon 0-1, S B Carthy 0-2, J Small 0-1

Scorers for Roscommon: C Murtagh 0-5 (0-3f), D Shine 0-3, C Devaney 0-2, S Kilbride 1-0, F Cregg 0-1 (0-1f), N Daly 0-1.
