Pique blames the media after being subjected to whistles by Spain fans

The Barcelona defender is angry with the press, while Radamel Falcao became Colombia’s all-time record goalscorer in last night’s game.

SPAIN DEFENDER GERARD Pique was left angry after being whistled by his own fans, blaming the media for causing the storm.

The Barcelona star was again targeted by some supporters as Spain drew 2-2 with Colombia in a friendly in Murcia on Wednesday.

Pique said the constant talk about the issue was leading to the incidents being repeated.

“For a year you’ve been asking me about this,”  he told reporters. “You make this important.

People don’t whistle me anymore since the Euros and you, with your people and polls, make them whistle again.”

Pique has previously been whistled and booed due to his perceived support for Catalan independence from Spain.

But the defender insisted it could not be the reason for the latest whistles, saying: “People no longer whistle and they are doing it again.

“Do you think it’s because Catalonia independence? Do you think they boo me because political issues? Have I ever spoken about this?

“This is a thing that I have already answered about 20 times. Look to the newspaper library.”

Radamel Falcao became Colombia’s all-time top goalscorer in the same game. The Monaco striker netted a bullet header early in the second half of the encounter to take his international tally to 26 goals in 65 appearances.

The 31-year-old, whose last goal for his country came two years ago against Costa Rica, now has one more than Millonarios great Arnoldo Iguaran.

It also ensured that Spain conceded twice at home for the first time since they beat Ivory Coast 3-2 back in 2006.

Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, reportedly a top target for Manchester United, salvaged a draw for Spain after Edwin Cardona and Falcao had overturned David Silva’s first-half strike.
