As it happened: NFL Week eight Sunday night hangout

We kept an eye on the Bears and a big night for Big Ben.

Another week of Wembley football, but our focus is fixed on matters across the Atlantic.

As always, we’d love to hear from you. Get in touch in the usual ways, email Sean@thescore.ie, tweet @thescore_ie, check us out on Facebook or use the comment section below.

Gridiron - NFL International Series 2014 - Detroit Lions v Atlanta Falcons - Wembley Stadium Adam Davy Adam Davy

Good afternoon NFL fans. The evening’s are getting short aren’t they?

Fortunately, we’ve still got a whole heap of American football to keep us warm through the night.

I’ll be with you for the majority of those fixtures; passing the dip, grabbing beers from the fridge and generally just pointing out things you may have missed from around the continent.

Here are the early kick-offs we’ll be watching:

Ravens @ Bengals

Bears @ Patriots
Dolphins @ Jaguars
Vikings @ Buccaneers
Bills @ Jets
Seahawks @ Panthers
Texans @Titans
Rams @ Chiefs

You want late games?

Eagles @ Cardinals

Colts @ Steelers
Raiders @ Browns

And, this being a bank holiday, you might just find yourself staying up until stupid o’clock watching these babies.

Packers @ Saints

Washington @Cowboys

But before we get into all that, there’s only one place to start, Wembley.

Detroit brought football all the way home to the Falcons, coming from 21 – 0 down at half-time to beat Atlanta 22 – 21.

It’s an exceptional result and an exciting finish that got me thinking: Why are London games always so bloody awful?

Let us know in the comment section below or on Twitter what your thoughts on London NFL fixtures are.

Right, time to catch you up with a few scores.

Firstly, the Pats have opened up a 10 – 0 lead over the Bears thanks to Brady and that man Gronk!

Meanwhile, mini-Gronk is rapping to himself.

TDs from Lance Kendricks and Jamal Charles have St Louis level with the Chiefs.

It’s all happening in New Jersey. The Jets have hit back after going 14 – 0 down to the Bills.

First, Kyle Orton hung this one up for Robert Woods.

Orton backed it up with a one-yard throw, but this from Sammy Watkins is surely the moment of the night.

Gotta love it when a showboater eats dirt.

Chris Ivory ran in the Jets lone effort, but the Bills are up to 21 after Frank Summers barrelled in a third TD.

So with half-times coming in, here’a how the games are standing.

Ravens 6 Bengals 7

Bears 7 Patriots 23
Dolphins 7 Jaguars 3
Vikings 3 Buccaneers 0
Bills 21 Jets 7
Seahawks 3 Panthers 6
Texans 10Titans 3
Rams 7 Chiefs 10

That Patriots score includes a second for El Gronko

The big man getting his big feet down just in time.

Joe, Joe Joe…

Flacco is not having a good day. He’s just thrown another interception after the Bengals banged in a second TD. 6 – 14 the Ravens trail now.

The Bears took a break from getting steamrolled by Gronk and Brady to put eight points on the board.

This class catch from Bennett was followed by a two-point play.

They’re only 45 – 15 down now.

Oh my word.

Kelvin Benjamin out-jumps Richard Sherman for an absolute stonker of a catch.

If you’re watching the games on Sky, you’ll already know that a fumble put the Ravens right back in the danger zone and they lead for the first time. 21 – 20.

When it’s not going for ya, it just ain’t going for ya.

AmIRight, Jets?

Drama in Cincinnati where the Ravens came oh, so close to snatching a win… but they get called for an offensive interference.

As the late games get into a 1st quarter rhythm. Here’s how the main chunk of the day’s action panned out.

Ravens 24 Bengals 27

Bears 23 Patriots 51
Dolphins 27 Jaguars 13
Vikings 19 Buccaneers 13
Bills 43 Jets 23
Seahawks 13 Panthers 9
Texans 30 Titans 16
Rams 7 Chiefs 34

Boom. There’s the first score of the late games, Jeremy Maclin, receiving from Foles to run the Eagles into a 7 zip lead.

The Steelers are on the board too thanks to this sublime footwork from Markus Wheaton.

When it rains…

Cards are on level terms with Philly thanks to Andre Ellington.

Big Ben, so hot right now.

Double boom.

Steelers follows up a TD with a William Gay pick 6 courtesy of Andrew Luck.

That’s two scores in under a minute.

He’s earned that dance. No doubt about it.

We’re just seeing this now, but in the Texans game JJ Watt produced a glorious celebration after sacking Titans QB Zach Mettenberger.

Mettenberger had spent roughly half his week posting selfies.

So after JJ put him on the ground, he took a big ol’ pretend picture of his buddy.

selfie

Ouch.

Oh, whoops.

Oh, god. Hope these three men are okay. Horrific helmet-on-helmet collision.

If you’re bashing your phone against the wall giving out about the lack of Browns v Raiders coverage… it’s 9 – 0 to Cleveland. Chill.

Even LeBron wishes he was watching the Steelers.

The Bees are buzzing.

This the first of Antonio Brown’s two touchdowns

No wonder Mike Tomlin is excited.

The Jets finished on the wrong end of a 43 – 23 scoreline today.

And man did the Bills enjoy winding them up.

While Roethlisburger just keeps carving up the Colts, Jeremy Maclin is sent on a detour by the Cardinals D.

‘Endzone is that way. Yeah, through the gatorade. Keep going…’

Hold up. The Eagles have flapped into a third quarter lead.

Maclin just can’t keep himself off the highlight reel.

What’s this? The Colts have romped right back into this game.

They’re only down 34 – 42 and we’ve got a a full 17.35 left to play.

Ain’t he great.

Hold onto your hats…

Five minutes into the fourth in the other big game and the Cardinals are level. 17 – 17.

Both these games going to the wire.

Whoa. Arizona go long and John Brown rounds off a 75-yard touchdown.

20 – 24, the Eagles have 1.21 to rescue this (again).

Here’s that Brown score. It was reviewed just to make sure he wasn’t put down at the one.

Cancel that Colts comeback. Roethlisberger has just passed over the 500 yard mark and the Steelers have broken 50.

Whoa. With a second to go in the Eagles-Cardinals game, Foles hangs it up in the corner of the endzone and his receiver makes the catch… but can’t get his feet on the ground.

FT: Eagles 20 Cardinals 24

Yeah, he’d better sit the next few plays out.

Oh, it’s also finished between 13 – 23 to the Browns against the Raiders. But if you cared, you knew that already.

And there we have it. No record for Ben Roethlisberger, just a career high of 522 yards passing with six touchdown passes.

Go ice it up, big guy.
