NORWICH CITY STRIKER Dieumerci Mbokani was “unharmed but shaken” after being at Zaventem Airport in Brussels during today’s suspected terrorist attack, the Premier League club have confirmed.
Two explosions targeting the main hall of the airport killed 11 people and injured 81, while a further blast at Maelbeek metro station in the city left 15 dead and a further 55 injured – 10 critically.
DR Congo international Mbokani, who is on loan at Norwich from Dynamo Kiev and has previously represented Belgian clubs Anderlecht and Standard Liege, was at Zaventem and has now returned home to be with his family.
The statement from Norwich read: “Norwich City Football Club can confirm Dieumerci Mbokani was at Zaventem Airport in Brussels at the time of this morning’s terror attacks.
“The on-loan Dynamo Kiev striker was unharmed but shaken by the tragic events at the airport, in which a number of people were killed or injured.
“The club is in constant dialogue with Dieumerci, who has now returned home to be with his family.
“The thoughts of everyone at Norwich City are with the victims of the atrocities in Belgium today and their relatives.
“There will be no further statements from the club or Dieumerci Mbokani at this time.”
