Referee unwittingly provides assist for Wigan goal
MANAGERS OFTEN BLAME referees for the concession of goals, but rarely are officials directly involved in such incidents.
Sheffield United boss Nigel Adkins will not have been too happy with referee Andy Woolmer in their League One game with Wigan last night, when he unintentionally provided the backheel that led to Will Grigg’s opener.
Not only did the official provide an accidental assist, but in doing so, Woolmer broke up what looked like a promising Sheffield United counter-attack.
The Blades did partially recover, however, and ended up drawing 3-3, having been 3-0 down at one point.
