Munster and Ireland legend Ronan O'Gara to receive the Freedom of Cork

He follows in the footsteps of fellow sporting legends Roy Keane and Sonia O’Sullivan in receiving the honour.

MUNSTER AND IRELAND rugby legend Ronan O’Gara is to receive the Freedom of Cork, it has been confirmed.

The Lord Mayor of Cork, Des Cahill, earlier revealed on Twitter that his fellow Cork City Council members had accepted his proposal.

Responding to the news, O’Gara said he was “humbled” to receive the honour.

The 39-year-old is one of the most decorated players in the history of Irish rugby.

In addition to earning 128 Ireland caps, he appeared over 200 times for Munster between 1997 and his retirement in 2013.

The talented out-half was part of three British and Irish Lions tours, while helping Munster win two Heineken Cups. He was also instrumental in guiding Ireland to the 2009 Six Nations Championship.

O’Gara follows in the footsteps of fellow sporting legends Roy Keane and Sonia O’Sullivan in being awarded the honour.
