CAPTAIN DARREN CLARKE has selected Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose — who went 3-0 together at Gleneagles in 2014 — to begin Europe’s defence of the Ryder Cup tomorrow at Hazeltine, Minnesota.

Stenson, the 2016 Open champion, and Rose, who recently won the gold medal at the Olympics, will take on Texan pair Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed in the first match in Friday’s foursomes, beginning at 1.35pm Irish time.

Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, who’ll be partnered by Andy Sullivan, will be up against Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler in the second match.

Next up will be Sergio Garcia and Martin Kaymer against Jimmy Walker — who won this year’s USPGA Championship — and Zach Johnson.

USA captain Davis Love III has left out Brooks Koepka, Brandt Snedeker, JB Holmes and Ryan Moore for the opening foursomes.
