Two Irish wingers set for Premier League return and the rest of today's transfer gossip

Meanwhile, French defensive midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia could be about to join Arsenal.

HERE’S YOUR DAILY dose of transfer gossip as the madness of the summer transfer window begins and who better to guide us through the latest talks, hoodwinks and handshakes than ‘Arry himself.

Just don’t use the words wheelin’ or dealin’, alright?

Second bid: The big transfer news this morning revolves around Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling. Manchester City have tabled a second bid according to Sky Sports, this time offering €55million for the 20-year-old. The Eastlands club are desperate to meet their home-grown quota, but that amount of money for Sterling seems rather steep.

Edging closer: In a deal that makes an abundance of sense for both player and buyer, Burnley right-back Kieran Trippier looks to be on his way to Tottenham Hotspur in a €5million deal. Burnley boss Sean Dyche has confirmed the proposed move is an “active deal”. He’s set to have a medical at White Hart Lane today.

On the up: James McClean looks set to seal his escape from the doldrums of League One as West Brom are rumoured to be close to sealing a €2million deal for the Irish winger. McClean suffered relegation with Wigan Athletic from the Championship last season, but was voted the club’s Player of the Season.

Coming home: Juventus signed the wonderful Paulo Dybala earlier this month, and that seems to mean that Carlos Tevez will be allowed to leave. Boca Juniors president Daniel Angelici has talked up his club’s chances of bringing the 31-year-old back to Argentina. “What I am sure of is that Tevez stays at Juve or returns to Boca,” said Angelici.

Lifeline: Another Irish wide-man who could be given a Premier League lifeline is Robbie Brady. The Daily Mirror are reporting that both Aston Villa and newly promoted Norwich are keen on the Hull City winger/left-back. No fee has been mentioned but the 23-year-old would be keen to continue playing in the top tier.

French connection: Arsene Wenger may be close to signing the defensive midfielder he has craved for many years. According to Sky Italia, the Arsenal boss has held talks with Monaco’s France international Geoffrey Kondogbia. The price mooted is €20million, but he is surely not going to come that cheap seeing as he still has three years left on his contract.

Downgrading: It seems inevitable that Manchester City will fill their squad with less-than-spectacular English players that will cost well above their true value to satisfy the FA’s home-grown player demands. Fabian Delph is the newest name to be linked, as the Daily Telegraph report that Manuel Pelligrini is interested. Tim Sherwood thinks he’s ‘the best midfielder in the country,’ so you can be sure that Villa will look for a substantial fee.

Transfer blow: The Daily Star labels Manchester United and Arsenal’s transfer plans as ‘SHATTERED’ following Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis stating that the club will not sell Gonzalo Higuaín this summer. The Napoli chief did, however, add: “If some madman meets his release clause, that’s different.” That release clause is apparently €100million.

Talked up: The papers have gotten all excited this morning after Wayne Rooney said he would like to play up front with Harry Kane at club level. The England captain was asked about Kane in an interview for Nike and described the possible link-up as exciting. He was hardly going to say it would be terrible to have Kane there. The Daily Mirror reported last week that United had made a €55million bid for the youngster.
