Wexford 1-20

WEXFORD cruised through to another Bord Gáis Energy All-Ireland U21 hurling final on September 12 with a comfortable 12-point victory over Antrim at Semple Stadium this afternoon.

Despite registering 19 wides, the Leinster champions were too good for the Saffrons.

A repeat of the semi-final upset involving the counties two years ago was never on the cards as Conor McDonald hit 0-7 for the winners, while also setting up Conor Devitt’s second half goal with a sublime flick.

McDonald had 0-5 on the board for the Model County as they led by 0-8 to 0-3 at half-time.

The sides were level at 0-1 apiece early on but Wexford took control and were never in any danger.

Cathal Dunbar, Kevin Foley and Tony French also registered points for JJ Doyle’s charges.

Christy McNaughton converted a pair of frees for the Saffrons, with Eoghan Campbell registering their only score from play of the opening half.

Antrim were more competitive in the second half and snuck in for a goal with nine minutes remaining, as McNaughton ghosted in behind the Wexford cover.

But Kevin Ryan’s reign ended in defeat for Antrim and they finished the game with 14 players when Damon McMullan was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
