The League of Ireland returns but Athlone Town still don't know who will be lining out for them

The First Division side take on Cobh Ramblers tomorrow evening.

ATHLONE TOWN HAVE confirmed that they will fulfil their fixture with Cobh Ramblers tomorrow evening, but as of yet, cannot confirm who will be in their match-day squad.

The First Division club have endured a crisis-hit campaign that culminated in the Midlanders failing to fulfil their match against Waterford United earlier this month, after the majority of the team’s squad refused to travel as a result of unpaid expenses.

The FAI has already requested an independent review into the situation after they fined the club €1,000, with an additional €4,000 suspended if they miss another match this month, and Waterford awarded a 3-0 win.

The club released a statement this afternoon saying that Colin Fortune and Mick Dolan will take joint charge of the side when they face Cobh on Friday night, this news comes a week after former manager Alan Mathews resigned from his position.

“On the player front, a number of players left the club during the mid-season break, and this week over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday, the club have signed players and have forwarded their details to the FAI for registration purposes.”

“These will be added to the remaining squad for selection as part of the matchday squad along with U19s who are ready for the step up to senior football.”

“At this time www.athlonetownfc.ie are not aware of the names of the players who will be making up the squad, but will be receiving the player list officially when confirmed players are received back from FAI hopefully later today.”

Athlone currently sit second from bottom in the table, one point ahead of Cabinteely.
