Boost for Wales as Dan Lydiate could be fit for Six Nations

The Dragons flanker broke his ankle against Edinburgh in September.

WALES FLANKER DAN LYDIATE could return in time for the start of the Six Nations, according to his Dragons coach Darren Edwards.

Lydiate, the 2012 Six Nations Player Of The Tournament, broke his ankle in September while playing for the Dragons against Edinburgh in the RaboDirect PRO12.

At the time it was thought that the 24-year-old would be out for the entire season but Edwards says that he is only one month away from fitness.

“He is on course for the start of February,” Edwards told Wales Online.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if Dan has a half of rugby for us and Wales throw him straight in. He’s that important – we saw how much he was missed during the autumn internationals.”

Wales face Ireland in their Six Nations opener on February 2 in Cardiff.

They are already without Rhys Priestland for the tournament, and are sweating on the fitness of Ashley Beck, although James Hook is expected to have recovered from injury in time to take part.
