Bohemians prove too strong for the Seagulls

Goals from Dano Byrne and Ayman Ben Mohamed were enough to send the Gypsies into mid-table in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

A GOAL IN either half from Dano Byrne and Ayman Ben Mohamed left Bohemians rubbing shoulders with the top half of the table.

Only goal difference prevented them from going sixth as a first half header from Byrne and Ben Mohamed’s close-range finish with 20 minutes to play saw them collect their second league win of the season and consign Bray Wanderers to 11th spot.

Things could have transpired so differently had Andrew Lewis gained a better connection on Karl Moore’s floated cross after just 30 seconds.

Byrne showed him how it was done on the 30-minute mark as he powered home Lorcan Fitzgerald’s corner to give his side the lead.

Mick Cooke was keen to avoid a second consecutive league defeat so he threw on all three subs by the 69th minute but seconds later he was staring down the barrel of a 0-2 defeat when Cherrie failed to deal with Paddy Kavanagh’s free kick delivery and Ben Mohamed tucked it away at the back post.

A more clinical Bohemians side would have added to their lead in the closing stages and Keith Long had the luxury of springing Kurtis Byrne and Jake Kelly from his bench but in the end, their two goals earned them the three points.

BRAY WANDERERS: Peter Cherrie; Hugh Douglas, Alan McNally, Conor Kenna (C), Sean Harding; Dylan Connolly, Robbie Creevy (Alan Byrne, 30), Ryan Brennan, Karl Moore (Jason Marks, 69); Dean Kelly (Ger Pender, 64), Andrew Lewis.

BOHEMIANS: Dean Delany; Derek Pender, Derek Prendergast, Dano Byrne, Lorcan Fitzgerald; Roberto Lopes; Paddy Kavanagh, Eoin Wearen, Keith Buckley, Ayman Ben Mohamed (Jake Kelly, 85); Ismahil Akinade (Adam Evans, 90+2).
