Ex-Ireland international Carsley takes temporary position at Coventry

The former Birmingham player is set to form part of a management team alongside Richard Shaw.

LEE CARSLEY AND Richard Shaw will form a caretaker management team at Coventry City, it has been announced.

The move comes after the League One side sacked Andy Thorn, owing to a below-par start to their League One campaign, drawing their first three matches, having been relegated from the Championship last year.

Speaking to Coventry’s official website about the move, chief executive Tim Fisher said:

“We have not taken this decision lightly.

“We recognised that last season there were off-the-field matters that affected team affairs and felt it was right and proper to give Andy the chance to put that right over the course of the summer and the start of the season.

“We do not feel that has happened. Of course, the fact that we have surrendered the lead in the first three league games has not helped, but there are several other factors in this decision – not just three disappointing results.”

Carsley played for a number of Championship and Premier League clubs during his time as a player, including Blackburn, Birmingham and Everton.

He also won 39 caps for Ireland.
