Reported Man United target Firmino scored to help Brazil into the Copa América quarter final

Colombia’s draw with Venezuela also ensures that they’re through to the last eight.

A WIN FOR Brazil and a draw for Colombia in Group C meant that all of the tournament’s big hitters made it through to the quarter-finals of the South American competition.

Colombia and Peru were aware that a draw in their final group game would ensure that they would both gain safe passage into the final eight, with Colombia emerging as one of the best third-placed teams in the tournament.

A goalless draw ensued, with both sides seemingly happy to let the clock tick down to ensure they got the result they needed. Jose Pekerman’s side created the best opportunities throughout the encounter however.

Pedro Gallese was forced into making a sharp reaction save to deny Radamel Falcao early on, while Pablo Armero hit the side netting soon after.

Peru were much brighter in the second half as Joel Sanchez forced a save from David Ospina, and also shot wide of the near post shortly after the restart.

Jackson Martinez had the best chance of the night, but following in from a rebounded James Rodriguez shot, the Porto striker was brilliantly foiled by Gallesse.

Colombia’s third place finish means they must face the unenviable challenge of Argentina in the quarter-final, while Peru have been given the favourable draw of taking on surprise package Bolivia.

In the night’s other game, Brazil edged past a determined Venezuela in a 2-1 victory to ensure they topped the group.

Venezuela would have finished on top of Group C if they registered a win, but after their opening round victory over Colombia, losses to both Brazil and Peru has seen them dumped out.

Thiago Silva and Roberto Firmino put the Selecao in a commanding position, before Miku came off the bench to give Venzuela a fighting chance when he netted six minutes from time.

Former Manchester City striker Robinho started up front in the absence of captain Neymar, and it was the Santos man who created the opening goal. His in-swinging corner was met by Thiago Silva who volleyed into the net after nine minutes.

Reported Manchester United target Firmino then doubled his side’s lead, when he slammed home the insurance goal after good work from Willian to set him up.
