Dublin stunned by Cork comeback as Rebels reach NHL final

17 points from Pat Horgan helped the Leesiders into the league decider.

Cork 1-27

Dublin 2-23

A LATE POINT from Seamus Harnedy sealed a stunning comeback for Cork this afternoon and helped the Rebels reach the final of Division 1 of the Allianz National Hurling League at the expense of Dublin in Nowlan Park today.

Dublin held a 12-point lead at one stage in the first half and were ahead by nine at the break thanks to goals from Mark Schutte and David O’Callaghan but couldn’t hold on as Jimmy Barry-Murphy’s men finished the stronger.

Cork opened the scoring through Conor Lehane but wouldn’t lead again until Harnedy’s injury-time effort as Schutte found the back of the Cork net within a minute of the opener.

With Dublin on top, O’Callaghan raced through the Cork defence to raise the green flag and make it 2-9 to 0-3. Cork fought back through the ever impressive Horgan but Dublin’s lead was still 2-15 to 0-12 at half-time.

Though the Blues continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over after the break, they couldn’t stop Horgan from scoring and even when Paudie O’Sullivan fired the Rebels’ only goal on 65 minutes, they still trailed by four points.

However, Horgan added a further three points to bring his total to 0-17 for the game before Lehane and Harnedy ensured a famous Cork win.
