Cruciate curse continues as Kildare's Lynch picks up injury

The player will miss his side’s clash with Meath despite being named in the starting line-up.

HUGH LYNCH WILL miss Kildare’s All-Ireland qualifying match with Meath tomorrow, reports HoganStand, as he has suffered what is suspected to be a cruciate injury.

Darryl Flynn is the most likely replacement for Lynch, who had already been named in his side’s starting line-up.

The news will be seen as a significant blow to Kildare, as Lynch has been in fine form of late, earning the man of the match accolade in last week’s victory over Laois.

The injury comes following news that the GAA has set up a sub-committee to investigate the disconcerting number of players suffering damage to their cruciate.

There has been speculation as to why this injury is so widespread, with Dr Pat Duggan, who is chairing the committee, suggesting:

“It may be that modern players are so phenomenally conditioned from the hips up that when they land on one leg, like in football, the power going through their leg is a lot greater than it was say 10 years ago.”

A similar investigation in US women’s soccer resulted in a significant decrease in the number of players suffering from the injury.
