DANIEL CORMIER HAS got his hands on the UFC light heavyweight belt at last after defeating Anthony Johnson in Las Vegas last night.
The former Olympic wrestler (16-1 MMA) submitted ‘Rumble’ (19-5 MMA) with a rear-naked choke in the main event at UFC 187 to claim the vacant title, which was up for grabs due to the indefinite suspension of Jon Jones.
Jones was handed the ban after being involved in a hit-and-run incident last month. He overcame Cormier by unanimous decision back in January and the new champion is eager for a rematch whenever his rival makes a return to the Octagon.
“Jon Jones, get your s*** together,” Cormier said after his win. “I’m waiting for you.”
In the meantime, 36-year-old Cormier explained that he would be more than happy to take on Ryan Bader after a heated exchange during the post-fight press conference.
