Current U21 boss Ó Sé will manage Kerry for next Sunday’s McGrath Cup opener against IT Tralee but it doesn’t mean that All-Ireland winning boss Eamonn Fitzmaurice has made a shock departure from the role.
Instead it’s a temporary arrangement that has been brought about due to the fact that Fitzmaurice and the Kerry team are currently on holiday in South Africa in the wake of their Sam Maguire win last year. They are not set to return to Ireland until next Sunday night/Monday morning.

Selector Diarmuid Murphy was set to take over as role of manager for the game but a Kerry GAA spokesperson confirmed to TheScore.ie that while Murphy will attend Sunday’s game, it was felt that he would not be back in time to properly prepare and select a team for the match.
Instead Ó Sé and his Kerry U21 management team, that includes Seamus Moynihan, will manage the senior side for Sunday’s game. The Kerry team will be largely comprised of players from the current U21 squad and the junior team that reached last year’s All-Ireland final against Cavan.
The Kerry U21′s drew their opening game in the Hastings Cup last Saturday when the game finished 0-13 to 1-10 against Roscommon in Gort.
