David de Gea 'shocked' by Man United omission

Reports suggest the goalkeeper’s camp insist he never refused to play for the club.

MAN UNITED GOALKEEPER David de Gea is “shocked” by his continuing omission from the side, according to reports.

Manager Louis van Gaal had previously claimed that De Gea currently does not want to play for the club, as his future with the Red Devils remains uncertain.

However, contrary to Van Gaal’s suggestion, the BBC’s Dan Roan reports that the Spanish international is surprised by the Dutchman’s decision not to pick him amid interest from Real Madrid, while sources close to the goalkeeper insist he never refused to play.

United are understood to be holding out for a world record fee for a goalkeeper, with the club also demanding Sergio Ramos in part exchange.

The deal could be further complicated if Ramos signs a new contract with the Spanish side, as he is reportedly on the verge of doing.

The Red Devils take on Aston Villa at 7.45pm this evening, with Sergio Romero again expected to play in De Gea’s absence.
