CYRIL KEVLIHAN’S DUBLIN minor footballers are through to an Electric Ireland All-Ireland semi-final clash with Donegal. The young Sky Blues saw off Cork by four points in a hard-fought encounter at Semple Stadium this afternoon.

Two first half goals from Chris Sallier proved crucial as the Leinster champions survived their toughest test of the season.

Dublin were also awarded two late penalties, with Colm Basquel contenting himself with a point from the second one. Basquel sent the first penalty crashing off the upright in the 57th minute and deep in stoppage time, he tapped over from the second award for the insurance score.

Cork, beaten Munster finalists, gave Dublin a real game and the Rebels were unfortunate to see forward Michael Hurley, younger brother of Brian, stretchered off in the first half with a suspected ankle fracture.

At half-time, 2012 All-Ireland champions Dublin were four points clear – 2-6 to 0-8.
Sallier netted his first goal in the eighth minute, finishing well after a brilliant surge upfield by corner back Eoin Murchan.

And after Cork turned over possession when in a good position at the other end, Sallier pounced for his second goal in the 14th minute.

Sean Powter was beaten to the ball on the Kinane Stand touchline and with Cork left hopelessly exposed at the back, influential captain Con O’Callaghan and Aaron Byrne combined to set up Sallier.

Dual star O’Callaghan finished with 0-8 for Dublin – a haul split evenly between play and frees. Shane Kingston, who netted Cork’s second half goal, led the way in the scoring stakes for the Leesiders.

They finished with ten different players on the scoresheet and while just four Dublin players contributed, that was still good enough for the Metropolitans.
