Eight and out: Michael Kavanagh calls it a day after glittering Kilkenny career

Brian Cody will have to plan without the St Lachtain’s clubman as he hangs up his boots.

MICHAEL KAVANAGH IS the latest Kilkenny hurler to call it a day.

The St Lachtain’s clubman does so with eight Celtic Crosses in his back pocket as well as 13 Leinster titles.

“There comes a time when you know it is time to go. That time has come for me,” Kavanagh told the Kilkenny People.

“I arrived for a golden era in Kilkenny hurling and I got to play with and against some players who will forever be remembered as giants of the game,” the defender added.

“It is a big decision, a painful decision, but everyone knows the end of the road has to come some time.”

Kavanagh, who was an All-Star on four occasions, took time out from the Kilkenny senior set-up before coming to this decision.
