Eir Sport continue rugby takeover with exclusive coverage of Ireland v NZ from Chicago

The station will be the only place to see Joe Schmidt’s side take on the All Blacks in America next month.

EIR SPORT CONTINUE to flex its muscles in the sports coverage market with the announcement that it will show Ireland’s Test match against New Zealand in Chicago next month.

Eir, which acquired Setanta Sports at the end of 2015 for a reported €20 million and rebranded the station earlier this year to eir Sport, will carry live coverage of the first of Ireland’s Autumn fixtures on Saturday 5 November [9pm Irish time, with a preview show at 8pm].

The station will also screen Munster’s first meeting with the Maori All Blacks at Thomond Park on Friday 11 November.

It now means the station has emerged as a significant player in the market having already secured the exclusive Irish rights to the 2019 World Cup as well as carrying coverage of the European Champions Cup in its partnership with BT Sport.

In terms of rugby coverage, eir Sport also provides Aviva Premiership, Leinster Schools Rugby and next year’s Women’s World Cup as part of its package.

Joe Schmidt’s side begin their Autumn schedule with a trip across the Atlantic to face the All Blacks at Solider Field before returning home to host Canada, Australia and a return meeting with Steve Hansen’s charges.

RTÉ and Sky Sports will have live coverage of Ireland’s three fixtures at the Aviva Stadium.
