THERE’S BEEN A generally positive reaction to last night’s Super 11s hurling clash between Dublin and Galway at Boston’s iconic Fenway Park – but not everybody was left impressed.
The mass brawl that marred the game has been described as a “fu#*ng embarrassment” by Monaghan footballer Dick Clerkin, while a leading GAA coach in Tyrone has described the fixture as a “junket” while insisting that the resources used would be better channeled into promoting the game in weaker counties.
Former Kilkenny star and RTÉ pundit Eddie Brennan couldn’t believe that a Galway referee, Alan Kelly, took charge of a game involving his native county.
Dublin hurler Conal Keaney was tied up on club duty with Ballyboden St Enda’s, as the county champions advanced to an AIB Leinster senior club football final showdown with Portlaoise.
And watching from afar, Keaney wasn’t overly impressed by the fare on offer in Boston.
Former Offaly star Joe Dooley described the hurling as “pretty harmless.”
